I begin this series with the end in mind, as Stephen Covey would describe it in his bestseller The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The "end" being a new way to interpret obstacles in our daily hustle, and using the lessons that come from them to our advantage. In my Stoicism journey my first exposure was to the philosopher Seneca when I read the book On the Shortness of Life. I was blown away by that little book, highly recommend you read it! (I actually have a couple of entries inspired by the book that talk about friendships and time). After finishing the book, I was truly intrigued, I wanted more Stoicism. My appreciation for the Stoic philosophy was due to its practicality and simple implementation to daily life. Along the way, I somehow discovered Ryan Holiday, I believe it was through his monthly reading list. Pleasantly surprised I found he is also an avid Stoic believer, due to my same reason, its practicality. What was even better was the fact that he wrote a book titled The Obstacle Is the Way. The book applies the Stoic philosophy to trials and elaborates on how we can turn them into triumphs. He brings the Stoic philosophy to life by using real world people as examples. Naturally I bought the book of course. While I was reading The Obstacle Is the Way, I came up with the idea of beginning "The Stoic Series". First, it would help me personally, especially now that I am going through a rough time where I found myself in a state of fulminating frustration related to many things. I am sure details will surface as the series goes on. What I have read and the lessons learned have made an evident difference in my daily mentality. Let me be sincere, a task that has not been as easy, especially when you feel trapped. Secondly, I hope this series helps you as a reader in your daily life with all its struggles. Okay so here I go, the beginning of a mental cleansing. This is what will be happening, I will be explaining the "golden nuggets" from each chapter in The Obstacle Is the Way and sharing what I learned and how I can apply them to my life, and hopefully inspire you to do the same. If you want to join me stay tuned for a weekly dose. **I am in no way shape or form an expert on Stoicism nor intend to come off like so. The sole intention of this series is to share ideas that have resonated with me, helped change my mindset when facing trying times, and altered my perspective. Hope you enjoy it!** "The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way."
