"Today is gonna be the most productive day." That was the very sentence my brother said to me from across the kitchen yesterday morning. That statement has been bouncing around inside my brain the entire day yesterday and today for some reason. I tell you why he said it; both of my brothers were hours away from boarding an airplane, headed off to a week of vacation. Haven't you noticed that our productivity skyrockets the day before we leave for vacation?! I mean it's ridiculous the amount of things that need to get done before we have to leave, and it's astonishing how everything gets done. I'm dead serious people. How is it that having the same twenty-four hours in every day, the day before vacation becomes our most productive day (out of the entire year for that matter)? You are probably nodding your head in complete and utter agreement and chuckling...I am sure of it! ;) It's magic! Well no it's not, even though it seems that way. I think it's a combination of two things. One: there is a sense of "I have to do it now!", which simply put, translates into that pressing feeling or sense of urgency. And two: that innate feeling that once on vacation we won't do anything. Therefore, we must make sure to do everything that we have put off and a bit more, so when we come back we aren't frantically trying to complete things that should have been done from the very start. So if we can apply this idea to our weekly work routine (whatever that might be) then I know we can all be more productive. In a sense we are playing mind games with ourselves. But, to make it more realistic (because we know we won't go on vacation every week, let alone everyday), treat yourself to something at the end of your work week (aka your "vacation"). That way we aren't constantly sabotaging the idea of productivity by having our minds tell us it's some kind of joke. Alright people, muscle through! : ) "To do list: everything."
