Comparing: the act that single handedly demotivates us when done wrong. I feel like comparison and competition go hand in hand. Once you start to compare yourself or your life with someone else's you fall into the unconscious trap of trying to one up them, hence the competition. This just brings out our insecurities, the fears we have within us. Theodore Roosevelt couldn't have said it any better, "Comparison is the thief of joy." It'll just leave you feeling dissatisfied with yourself, consequently putting you in a bad state of mind. Guess what? There is always going to be someone that's going to one up you, that's just the truth of the matter. So if you keep focusing on what others are doing, you will never do anything yourself. I know it's a clichéd idea, but why don't we focus our efforts on one upping ourselves, let's make it our job to make ourselves better on the regular. There is no better investment. So if you're going to compare yourself to someone, compare yourself to you, your yesterday's you. Here is my recommendation: do your thing, do you. You'll be happier. "The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel."
